The Oscar nominations 2024 featured Christopher Nolan‘s “Oppenheimer” earning thirteen nods across different categories.
At this year’s Oscars, which air live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 PT on March 10, “Oppenheimer” is up for best picture, best actor (Cillian Murphy), best supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and best supporting actress (Emily Blunt). Tuesday morning, it was revealed that Martin Scorsese‘s Western crime tale “Killers of the Flower Moon” had won 10 awards and “Poor Things” had won 11.
Five movies, including Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie,” “The Holdovers” (a holiday movie set in the 1970s), “American Fiction” (a racial satire), “Past Lives” (a romantic drama), “Maestro” (a biopic of Leonard Bernstein), “Anatomy of a Fall” (a French courtroom thriller), and “The Zone of Interest” (a Holocaust drama), will be competing for Hollywood’s top award, “Best picture.“
There are three movies made by women this year for the first time: “Past Lives” by Celine Song, “Anatomy of a Fall” by Greta Gerwig, and “Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet. However, only Triet was nominated for “Best Director.“
Lily Gladstone, who became famous in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” was the first Native American to be named for best actor. He or she made history. Emma Stone (“Poor Things“), Carey Mulligan (“Maestro“), Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall“), and Annette Bening (“Nyad“) are also in the running.
The best actor group includes Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers“), Bradley Cooper (“Maestro“) and first-time nominees Murphy, Colman Domingo (“Rustin“) and Jeffrey Wright (“American Fiction“).
Downey looks like he’ll win the award for best supporting actor, but he has to first beat Ryan Gosling (“Barbie“), Robert De Niro (“Killers of the Flower Moon“), Sterling K. Brown (“American Fiction“), and Mark Ruffalo (“Poor Things“). A tough group of actors to beat.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers“) along with Blunt, Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple“), Jodie Foster (“Nyad“), and America Ferrera (“Barbie“) has been nominated for the best supporting actress.
